This website gave a nice, brief overview of Tolkien’s books, how he wrote, and current themes. It was useful because it condensed longer literary criticisms and made it easier to look at the books on a larger, more general scale. This source gives the reader a good sense of what Tolkien is about and an unbiased take on who he is, and what he has done.
"The Chronology of the Life of J.R.R. Tolkien." kulichki.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 May 2013. <http://www.kulichki.com/tolkien/eng/enghron.html>.
This source was helpful because it gave a timeline of Tolkien’s life in a simple, straightforward way. It gave exact dates, events, and facts about who Tolkien is. It was useful because it was easy to consult the timeline for exact dates of different moments in Tolkien’s life.
J. R. R. Tolkien (1892 - 1973). Ipl2 Literary Criticism. N.d. Web. 01 May 2013. http://www.ipl.org/div/litcrit/bin/litcrit.o ut.pl?au=tol-52.
This source was helpful because it led me to other links about J.R.R. Tolkien. It was a simple way to find accurate websites for information all in one place, opposed to Google, where you sometimes don’t get exactly what you were looking for.
"The Lord of the Rings - Literary Qualities." novelexplorer.com. Novel Summaries Analysis. Web. 01 May 2013. <http://www.novelexplorer.com/the-lord-of-the-rings/literary-qualities-40/>.
This website was helpful because it was literary criticism not only on the entire trilogy but it also focused specifically on The Return of the King. This was useful since not all literary criticisms focus on all three of Tolkien’s books.
Milos, Karyn. "Too Deeply Hurt - Understanding Frodo's Decision to Depart." geocites.com. The Tolkien Society, n.d. Web. 01 May 2013. <http://web.archive.org/web/20080312221631/http://www.geocities.com/karynmilos/toodeeplyhurt.html>.
This source was helpful because it really focused in on Frodo and his part in the trilogy. It really focuses on what he was feeling and how the ring messed with his emotions and mind. This helped me to really decipher not only his feelings, but the other characters feelings, motivations, goals, and decisions as well through the trilogy.
Neimark, Anne. Mythmaker: The Life of J.R.R. Tolkien, Creator of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. New York: Harcourt Brace & Company, 1996. Print.
This book was incredibly helpful on telling J.R.R. Tolkien’s life story. The way Neimark wrote made it interesting and fascinating, more like a fiction novel instead of a historical text. This was a good source because it really focused on Tolkien’s early life, showing who he interacted with, his inspirations, and how difficult it was for him growing up.

This website was very helpful because it gave a little bit of everything - literary criticism, major themes, characters, and plot. It was useful because it reviewed everything, not just one book or one assignment - all the information was there.

This source was very useful. Despite its length, it really covers Tolkien’s trilogy in depth. This source really dissects Tolkien’s work explaining and connecting ideas.
