War
The series The Lord of the Rings is sometimes considered to really be about World War II. The Two Towers was published 9 years after World War II in 1954. The Lord of the Rings is seen as an allegory to World War II, because of the remembrance of the horrors - the hobbits would be the English soldiers joining with the European alliance to go southeast defeat Adolf Hitler (in the book, the hobbits and the fellowship are going to Mordor to fight a Dark Lord, who is a tyrant who enjoys invading neighboring countries - sounds very like the setup of World War II). Tolkien himself served in the trenches in France during the First World War. The shire itself is even based off of Tolkien's life in England. However, Tolkien never states or hints at that The Lord of the Rings is based off World War II.
